Managing Director
Salary: £90,000 – £110,000 per annum
Our client, a multi-disciplinary architectural practice seeks an experienced and strategic Managing Director to join their growing business, to manage the day to business operations allowing the Owners of the business to assuming CEO and other managerial positions.
Business is thriving, is at 20 staff now and internally is feeling that pressure of significant growth, yet the business is in position to grow significantly further.
The objective of the new Managing Director will be to:
- oversee those day to day business operations
- manage the overall success of the business to make sure it achieves its objectives effectively
- steer the company to the most profitable direction while also implementing its vision, mission and goals
- be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, providing support to and working closely with the future leaders within the business
- Provide strategic advice to the Business Owners
- Prepare comprehensive business plans to develop and execute the businesses strategies
- Be responsible for the performance of the company, in line with businesses overall strategy
- Ensures that the company is constantly moving towards fulfilling its short-term and long-term objectives and does not diverge from its strategic goals
- Work closely with and provide ongoing support to the companies Operations Manager
- Develops ways to help the business to grow
Main responsibilities
- Day to day management of the business, overseeing hiring, training & retaining employees, facilitation of weekly programming & troubleshooting meetings with SMT to review & discuss the status of each project, determining most appropriate course of action & agreeing delegation of tasks.
- Supporting Managers across the business, delegating tasks to maximise business performance
- Ensure quality processes are in place
- Ensure the business runs cost effectively
- Manage problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions
- Develop and maintain an effective marketing and public relations strategy to promote the services and image of the company in the wider community
- Develop and maintaining appropriate policies and procedures, ensuring that the company is abiding by equal opportunities employment laws, or legal health and safety practices
Financial
- Oversee the company’s financial performance, investments and other business ventures, working closely with Finance Management to preparation, monitor and manage the implementation of the annual budget
- Ensure that budget targets are met, that revenue flows are maximised and that fixed costs are minimised
- Oversee the preparation of the annual report and accounts of the company, presenting the company’s annual reports and accounts to the Owners to discuss & review
Strategic
- Keep up to speed on the latest developments in the industry in order to provide the Owners with an accurate view of the market & provide relevant strategic advice, bring matters of potential importance to the table
- Work with the senior management team member to prepare business plans, facilitating achievement of the business plan & strategies
Commercial focus
- Work with the CEO and BDM on expanding current client relationships, in order to develop longevity by embedding those relationships within the business, enhancing the company reputation and natural position in the marketplace, to develop awareness amongst stakeholder of companies suitability for key frameworks
- Keep abreast of commercial opportunities at all times, bringing key suitable opportunities to the attention of the Owners, presenting the key facets and potential returns succinctly
- Represent the company in negotiations with clients and suppliers, acting as the face of the company where required in important negotiations, in order to secure the most effective contract terms, keep clients happy and costs low for the company.
External facing
- Establish and maintain effective formal and informal links with major clients, relevant government departments and agencies, local authorities, key decision-makers and other stakeholders generally, to exchange information and views and to ensure that the company is providing the appropriate range and quality of services.
- Act as the public speaker and public relations representative of the company in ways that strengthen its profile where appropriate
Skills & experience
- A proven record of success as Managing Director or in senior-level general management, potentially in a related industry
- A knowledge of the industry is preferred – Background or experience in construction would be advantageous
- 5-10 years’ senior-level experience of management of people and resources
- Able to demonstrate ‘gravitas’ and a mature approach to doing business
- Preferably with a degree or higher in a management discipline or a professional qualification
- Demonstrable experience in developing strategic and business plans
- Familiarity with corporate law and management best practices
- Thorough knowledge of market changes and forces that could influence the company
- An understanding of financial management and wider management principles and techniques.
- Presentational skills with an appreciation of the demands of conflicting interests and of meeting statutory requirements

Salary: £90,000 – £110,000 per annum – salary determined by skills, experience and suitability to the role
