£19,494 - £24,000

Salary
£19,494 to £24,000 per annum depending on experience
Hours
Your normal working week will be:
35 hours per week. Lunch will normally be 1 hour.
Contracted Sunday – Friday (never work Saturdays)
Working hours covered by shifts, starting, and finishing between 7am and 7pm.
During summer, shifts tend to start earlier as it is light earlier, during winter, shifts may start later as the employer does not expect you to work in the dark.

Holidays:25 days plus bank holidays. Closed over Christmas, 24th December – 2nd January.

This role involves representing Liverpool, working outdoors, being polite and courteous to visitors to the city, helping city centre businesses and retailers to keep the outdoor areas of their premises clean, and carrying out some improvement works such as painting areas that need a touch up, benches, watering plants etc. Its all about keeping the city centre looking amazing, clean, and welcoming.
Our client is looking for 2 people,  to join their existing team of 4 street rangers / cleaners.
the ideal person would be someone who would be a great ambassador for the city. A smart person who takes pride in their appearance and who is passionate about Liverpool as a city.
As you carry out cleaning tasks and other jobs to maintain the appearance of our city centre, you may have to deal with questions from members of the public, who may seem to be challenging what you are doing, through lack of understanding, you will need to respond in a level headed, non-confrontational way, to reassure them of the good work being done.

The role
The role is physical and will be outdoors so the successful applicant would need to be comfortable with this.
A typical day can involve any of the following:

  • Taking direction from the Supervisor, who allocates tasks for the day across the team, the team get ready to leave, have all their PPE on, and set out to carry out the days jobs across the city centre outdoor area
  • Carrying out pre planned & reactive deep cleaning to outdoor parts of the city centre, working as part of a team under the guidance of a Supervisor
  • Responding to members request for the outside of their city centre premises to be cleaned such steps/doorways
  • Carry out continuous visual audits, reporting health and safety hazards, and feeding back to the Supervisor regarding your ideas on what could be improved. Recognising that things are not quite right, or that are detrimental to the city such as graffiti etc.
  • At times potentially engaging with rough sleepers, asking them to move from the area so it can be cleaned (Although safety is paramount, so if it does not seem safe to do so, then do not approach)
  • Sharps disposal (training is given as safety is a priority)
  • General tasks in the city centre area to maintain high standards in the City Streets such graffiti removal, painting phone boxes, benches etc
  • Litter picking
  • Clearing ally ways
  • Signposting visitors to the city, being helpful and friendly
  • Taking before and after pictures on an area you have worked to clean/improve, and where appropriate, discuss them and sharing them with local businesses this may affect or help.
  • Sending the odd email & writing a couple of paragraphs on a document following on from the days work.

The work is both planned and response work

The person

  • Be a customer focused, friendly individual, happy to engage with and help visitors to our city, who may ask for directions and to know a little more about the area
  • Be ambassadorial, friendly and knowledgeable about Liverpool
  • Demonstrate strong Interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate professional, courteous conduct and be respectful
  • Personal appearance maintained to the highest standard
  • Be able to carefully manage any potentially difficult situations in a level headed manner without conflict such as speaking to a member of the public who is asking questions about the work you are doing in a quite confrontational manner, or being able to challenge any behaviour that is not right, such as discriminatory behaviour within the group they are in
  • Be a good communicator, encouraging dialogue with members of the organization (known as levy payers), these are local businesses and retailers in the city centre
  • Being comfortable with digital reporting There will be an element of IT so someone comfortable in that area.
  • Be a problem solver, willing to help and have a can-do attitude
  • Be a team player who is supportive of colleagues

The skills
On-going training will be provided to support the role in areas such as Manual Handling, COSHH, H&S training, but the following are required

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of engaging with the public on a face-to-face basis
  • Someone who is comfortable with use of computers, phone apps and messaging
  • Someone who is able to add information into an Excel spreadsheet to create a basic daily report in the absence of the Team leader

Desirable Qualifications –but not essential – as this training will be given

  • Formal Customer Service Training
  • Use of chemicals for cleaning purposes and knowledge of Manual Handling Training.
  • COSHH Qualifications in the use of cleaning chemicals.
  • IOSH qualifications
  • First Aid Training
  • Knowledge or experience of Industrial cleaning machines and practices

Full clean driving license is desirable but not essential

Our client’s role is to promote the city centre and make it a more vibrant destination. The company focuses on improving the district that its members (known as levy payers) are in – these members are Liverpool city centre businesses and retailers. They do this by keeping the city centre clean and tidy, free of any trouble, by having their own Police on hand to help with any issues, by running events to bring the business together, they look after key matters such as emergency terrorist activity response for our city centre and much more.
