Payroll Bureau Officer

Our client, an accountancy practice based in Liverpool City Centre are looking for a Full Time Payroll Bureau Officer to join the company. You will ideally have knowledge of Sage Bureau software and will be able to come in and hit the ground running, with at least 1 year’s payroll experience, this experience will ideally include experience of working within a payroll bureau, Accountancy or Recruitment firm. You will be able to run the payroll function for approx. 150 companies+, completing end to end payrolls for both a weekly & monthly basis, issuing maternity/paternity/sick pay, P45s & P60s as well as having full knowledge of auto enrolment.

 

The Role

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Managing portfolio of payrolls for approx. 200-250 companies on a variable basis.
  • Mixture of weekly and monthly payroll, from sole traders up to 50 employees
  • Use Sage Bureau payroll software
  • Processing starters and leavers.
  • Processing SSP, SMP, SPP, attachment of earnings, student loans
  • Calculating tax deductions including all statutory payments.
  • Implementing Auto Enrolment where necessary and importing data to pension providers
  • Completing month end reconciliations
  • Preparing PAYE liability letters for clients & explaining to client how to pay CIS/PAYE
  • Processing manual calculations (statutory pay & standard wage)
  • Processing & receiving RTI
  • Dealing with clients via telephone and email, resolving issues & queries
  • Updating tax codes
  • Year-end reconciliations/producing P60 forms
  • Distribution of payslips
  • Cover for payroll colleagues, when required
  • Sending BACS payments
  • Undertaking other appropriate payroll tasks
  • Keeping up to date with all payroll legislation and compliance.
  • Undertaking any general payroll administration as and when required, e.g. filing.

 

Essential personal qualities

Experience and skills required:

  • Approx. 1 years’ experience of payroll, including working within a payroll bureau or recruitment firm running payroll
  • Experience of running payroll on a weekly & a monthly basis
  • Experience of running payroll for 150+ companies
  • Knowledge of SSP, SMP, SPP, attachment of earnings, student loans etc
  • Excellent admin skills with an outstanding attention to detail
  • Experience of implementing Auto Enrolment
  • A real natural problem solver
  • Team Player & Friendly ‘Can do’ Attitude
  • Adaptable to change as payroll is always evolving
  • Personal commitment, dedication to the role and the company
  • Knowledge of Sage Bureau Payroll
  • Have clear understanding of payroll legislation and compliance

 

The Company

 

Our client is an independent chartered accountancy practice in Liverpool City Centre now requires an additional team member to join, you will join 2 existing payroll officers to form a team of 3.

A successful, growing, medium size practice established for over 70 years, that provides a wide range of accountancy and business support services, and deals with compliance and business planning, with a client base ranging from individuals, small clients to medium corporate companies.

 

Salary, Pensions, Holidays and Benefits

Salary range is £24,000-26,000 this is dependent on suitability to the role & experience
Pension (5% employer 3% employee)
Extra weeks’ pay around Christmas time as a bonus – provided strong attendance record

21 days holiday plus Christmas off (4 days)
Additional Holidays for Long Service after 5- and 10-years’ service

 

Hours

Standard hours are 9:00 am – 5:15 pm, 1-hour lunch = 36.25 hours per week. The company can be flexible with hours for the right candidate within the working hours of 8:00am – 6:00pm.

There is the chance to work from home and from the office, the current arrangement for the payroll team is working 3 days from home, and 2 days in the office.
